Early Socialisation

Socialisation means gently introducing your puppy to the everyday world while it is still young and open to new experiences. A well-socialised puppy grows into a confident, friendly and relaxed adult dog.
This is one of the most important things you will ever do for your dog — and the window for it is short, so begin early.
Introduce different people
Let your puppy meet people of different ages and appearances in a calm, friendly way, so it learns that new people are nothing to fear.
Experience different environments
Gradually expose your puppy to new sights, sounds and surfaces — streets, traffic, other animals — always at a pace the puppy can handle.
Keep experiences positive
Pair new things with treats, praise and play so your puppy builds happy associations rather than fear.
Begin simple training early
Short, gentle lessons in basic manners — sitting, coming when called, walking politely — start best in puppyhood.
Reward good behaviour
Reward the behaviour you want to see. Dogs repeat what earns them praise, treats and attention.
Avoid frightening experiences
Never force a frightened puppy into a situation. A bad early experience can create a lasting fear that is hard to undo.
